SOIL | Reclaiming the Land

Ransom Ranch
Ransom Ranch is primarily mesquite and like much of Arizona, this land has been over-grazed for nearly a hundred years. The resulting loss of native grasses has caused excessive erosion and the spread of the pervasive honey mesquite.

In Arizona, one must fence cattle out! Cattle ranchers are not required to fence cattle in.
Building check dams to slow the erosion and retain water will enable us to successfully replant native species.

Making a start using (free!) logs and brush. Longer lasting gabions can be constructed using rock and wire.
